Keeping Records of YouTube and Vimeo Videos

You can keep records of published YouTube and Vimeo videos in Live Editor so you can associate your source videos with them. Now you can stay organized and easily find the source video for that YouTube video.

Note: When you associate a YouTube or Vimeo video, no video file is actually imported into Live Editor. You're just keeping a record of the video so you can keep tabs on its usage and related files.

Why keep records of these videos?

Live Editor allows you to associate related files and track where you're using your files in publications.

Related Files: Sources and Derivatives
Upload the source video file that you uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo. With that source file stored in Live Editor, you'll be able to find the file that you used to create the YouTube or Vimeo video if you need to change it later.
Tracking Usage
Track where you've embedded the YouTube or Vimeo video on websites and social media. That way you will know how important and heavily used the video is.

How to add a record

Within the Files section, you can get started by clicking the New File button in the upper right:

On the New File screen, you'll be presented with two choices:

  1. Upload Files from Computer
  2. Import Files from URLs

To add a record of a YouTube or Vimeo video, click Import Files from URLs:

You'll be presented with a field for entering URLs of YouTube vimeos, Vimeo videos, and other types of files:

In this field, you can enter URLs of any YouTube or Vimeo video's page, one per line. The URLs will typically look like one of the following:

  • http://vimeo.com/52302939

After clicking the Import Files button, you'll be taken to the main Files screen. It takes a minute or two to import information about your YouTube and Vimeo videos. After the data is processed, your YouTube and Vimeo videos will start appearing in your list of files.

Once the videos are processed, you can track related files and usage records.
