Tracking Usage of Files

You can use Live Editor to track where you've used each file on the Web. You then can be better informed of the consequences of uploading new versions of your file or deleting it.

When you click through to a file's edit screen, you'll find a Usage tab:

From there, you can see if there are any usages recorded for the file.

If you want to add a usage record, there is a Add Usage Record link at the bottom of the list of usages:

On the New File Usage Record screen, you can record a title for the usage, the web URL where the file is used, and any notes that you may need about the usage:

Once you have recorded the usage, it'll appear under the files's Usage tab:

When a file has at least one usage (or related file), the dialog that pops up when you attempt to delete the file will remind you of this usage.

Caution: In many circumstances, it's not a good idea to delete a file that's being used on or linked from a page on the Web. Pay careful attention to dialog boxes when they present you with a decision like this.
